Frequently Asked Questions

Honest answers to common questions about selling, appraising, and preserving your antiques, jewelry, and collectibles.

We specialize in fine jewelry, watches, art, and collectibles. From single heirlooms to entire estates. Our goal is to help you understand what you have and what it’s worth, whether it’s an heirloom diamond ring, an antique pocket watch, or a set of early American silverware.

We’re particularly interested in vintage wristwatches (Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, Jaeger-LeCoultre), gold jewelry, US and foreign coins, and art glass or decorative objects from well-known makers.

We also value the unusual and the unexpected. Unique design pieces, old toys, paintings, or curiosities built with materials and workmanship that are hard to find today.

If you’re unsure whether your item fits, send us photos through our Work with Us form. We’ll take a look and let you know whether it’s something we can buy, appraise, or help you place elsewhere. Every inquiry is welcome.

Free verbal consultations provide a general sense of value. These are perfect whether you’re deciding to sell or you’re simply curious about an item’s history.

Formal written appraisals are prepared for insurance, estate, divorce, or bankruptcy purposes. These must be conducted in person so we can inspect each detail under proper lighting, with magnification, and measurement tools.

Our written reports follow industry standards. You’ll receive documentation you can submit directly to insurers or attorneys.

We pride ourselves on transparency. Our aim is to help you make informed decisions with confidence.

We aim to make the process as simple as possible.

  1. Start by filling out our Work with Us form and uploading clear photos of your items. We’ll respond as quickly as we can with an initial impression or a request for more information.
  2. If we decide to move forward, we’ll arrange a meeting to evaluate your pieces in detail. Once we agree on fair market value, we make a direct purchase, meaning you receive immediate payment. No waiting for consignment or auction outcomes.

Our offers are based on current market data, precious metal prices, and comparable sales, ensuring you get a fair return. Whether you’re downsizing, settling an estate, or simply letting go of things you no longer use, we treat each transaction with discretion, respect, and care.

We are a Boston family business with a deep respect for craftsmanship and a commitment to transparency.

Our expertise begins with Tom Petrino Sr., who has spent four decades advising collectors, estates, and institutions. His knowledge shapes everything we do, and he is now helping pass that experience to the next generation. Ruby and Tom carry that legacy forward with fresh perspective and a shared love of art and design.

We bring those values to every appraisal and purchase. We explain our approach, answer questions, and help you feel informed at every step. Whether you are selling a single piece or handling a family estate, you can expect fairness, clarity, and genuine care.
